Secret #219 - Does Santa do a practice flight before Christmas Eve?

Hi Santa and the elves and Mrs. Claus!

I have a friend who says that he saw Santa flying his sleigh last Christmas, but it wasn’t on Christmas eve! Does Santa fly the sleigh before Christmas eve?

Hello there Abby!

Absolutely! It is very important that Santa and the sleigh team get in a lot of practice to make sure they all work together as best they can.

When you want to make sure that you’re going to do well on a test, what do you do? You practice! When you want to make sure that you are ready for a sports game, or a music recital, what do you do? You practice! When you want to be able to draw your mommy or daddy just right, what do you do? You practice!

Just like everything else, flying Santa’s sleigh takes practice. Even though Santa is an expert, that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t know the old saying ‘practice makes perfect’. He’s only so good at driving the sleigh because he’s been doing it for so so sooo many years! And of course, the reindeer on his team all need lots of practice too to make sure that everyone does their jobs just right.

So, naturally, Santa and the team of reindeer have quite a few practice flights each year during the months leading up to Christmas.

First, there are many short flights with the reindeer to get the team used to working together, then longer flights as they get better, and then routine flights all through December to make sure that everything is in tip-top order.

There are even some people who manage to spot Santa and the reindeer while they are out practicing. Sometimes he even joins in parades around the world to try out the Invengineer’s newest upgrades to his sleigh. It is important to try everything out early before the big night.

Who knows, Abby, if you see what looks like a shooting star in the night sky during December this year, it might just be them!
